Chaitanya, Shimoga, June 28, 2023: The Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society, keeping in mind the integral development of families and the society, on 28 June 2023 launched the project entitled “Improving the Standard of Living, Health and Hygiene of the Poor and Marginal Families through Income Generating Activities, promoting Green Environment, Organic Farming and Sustainable Streebandhu Cooperative.” The project is funded by Servizio per gli interventi caritativi per lo sviluppo dei popoli of Conferenza Episcopale Italiana. Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) leader Shri K. T. Gangadhar along with the Bishop of the Diocese of Shimoga and President of SMSSS, Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao SJ and Gynecologist from Sarji Hospital, Shimoga, Dr Chandushree B.P. launched the new project by lighting the lamp and unveiling the flex.

The Director of SMSSS, Rev. Fr Clifford Roshan Pinto in his keynote address explained the components of the projects and welcomed the dignitaries and all the participants. He noted that the present society expects a change and fast development. When the change and development contributes to the development of the society, such change or development becomes meaningful. The project aims at the integral development of the families as well as the society.

In his address, Shri K. T. Gangadhar analysed the present environmental concerns in India and noted that if we do not care and protect the environment and seriously work towards water conservation, the future generation will be in great difficulty. All should start converting the waste at home into organic manure. This will not only reduce the problem of piling up solid waste, but also provide better manure for the plants. This will also increase the fertility of the soil. We get good, natural vegetables for consumption. Cultivating vegetables in our own backyard garden will also improve our health condition.

In his presidential address, Bishop Francis Serrao appreciated the efforts of the Director of SMSSS, Fr Clifford Roshan Pinto and thanked him for realising a project which aims at the integral development of the families taking into consideration environmental concerns. Through a few life experiences from his school days, how the lessons for life taught by the teachers during the school days are shaping one’s life today. Development is not preserving more food in our refrigerator or costly items in our cupboards, but feeling for the needs of others and sharing with others what we have in excess. The world has enough for everyone’s need and not for everyone’s greed was the takeaway message.

After the formal launching program, Dr Chandushree elaborately explained to the participants about various health issues which women face in recent years. She also spoke about the precautions women should take if they feel some changes in their body. In detail she explained about the possible causes of cancer, possible types of cancer women can get and what needs to be done immediately if they notice any change, additional growth in their body.

Mr Jagadeesha K. H. compered the program. Mr Madhusudan proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Chaithra and Ms Priyanka performed the prayer dance. The presidents and secretaries of all the women federations and the staff of SMSSS were present for the program.
