Abbalagere, Shimoga, June 26, 2019: The Streebandhu Federation, Abbalagere in collaboration with Grama Panchayat, Abbalagere celebrated Environment Day on 26 June 2019 in a unique way by pledging to plant 1000 saplings in a public place. Mrs Theresa Sanctis, the animator for the area procured 1000 Seedlings from the Forest Department. The celebration is unique because nearly 60 women from the Federation and men from the village are cleaning Hosakerehalli lake, Abbalagere under MGNREGA. Today they have planted the plants on the bunds of the cleaned lake.

The programme was inaugurated at 11.00am by Mr Jayesh, Forest Range Officer, Shankara Range, Shimoga by symbolically pouring water to the plant. Rev. Fr Clifford Roshan Pinto, the director of SMSSS planted one plant in the premises of the Grama Panchayat office and addressed the gathering saying the celebration should not be limited to one day but everyone present for the programme should celebrate Environment Day every day by taking good care of the plants planted on the day of the celebration. He also appreciated the support of the officials of the Forest Department who have freely given 1000 seedlings to be planted. He also noted the wholehearted support of Abbalagere Grama Panchayat.

The president of Abbalagere Grama Panchayat, Mrs Kollaramma appreciated the good works of SMSSS and said that the Grama Panchayat is always open to extend full support for activities which benefit the general public. The president of Streebandhu Federation, Abbalagere thanked everyone. Mrs Theresa Sanctis, the animator toiled hard to make the programme a success.
