Awareness on Waste Management and Waste Segregation

Tippu Nagar, Shimoga, June 15, 2019: An awareness programme was organized on 15 June 2019 for 35 women from 3 SHGs of Tippu Nagar, Shimoga area on waste management and waste separation. Mr Jagadeesha K. H., the Women Empowerment Programme Coordinator from SMSSS created awareness on waste management and said waste management is a process of treating solid wastes and offers variety of solutions for recycling items that don't belong to trash. He also spoke on how garbage can be used as a valuable resource. When everyone speaks of Swachh Bharat or when the cleanliness drive is full force, everyone should cultivate a habit of managing the waste properly and above all should learn how to separate the waste into that which can be recycled and which cannot be recycled. He called upon the participants to become a model for others in the locality. Towards the end of the awareness programme the participants were given sufficient information about the benefits of using Bio-gas and the possibility of producing bio-gas from agricultural waste.

Later Br Vinuth spoke about different sicknesses caused by excessive use of plastic and more because of unscientific way of disposing waste in our locality. Mrs. Bhanupriya, the animator organized the programme.
