I am Sidhesh an active member of Dharani SHG in Jayanagar Grama panchayat which was formed in the year 2013. The Coordinators and Animators of SMSSS had conducted various trainings on organic farming. The information gained about the various benefits of organic farming for small farmers which includes low capital investment, the ability to achieve higher quality in the market, and the ability to use traditional knowledge.

Inspired by this training I started preparation of Vermin Compost and jeevamrutha, used farm yard manure and avoided chemical fertilizers for cultivating fruits and vegetables. Vermin compost provided all the nutrients required to the soil and increased its water holding capacity. Jeevamrutha reduced the incidence of pest and diseases and increased the decomposition of organic matter in soil. It reduced the cost of production and generated additional income from worms and vermin compost.

As I could prepare it easily I motivated other farmers to utilize this method to increase the productivity and soil fertility. I grow various vegetables such as Cucumber, ladies finger as well as papaya fruit. At present my family income has increased about Rs 46000 to 50000 per annum. My family and I are grateful to the Co-coordinators, animators and the SMSSS for guiding us towards the success.
