From Uncertainty to Healing Hands: Maria’s Journey to Becoming a Nurse

Maria Salomi Bhoomika N., from Chitradurga, is a shining example of courage and determination in the face of hardship. She is the daughter of Mr. Nagaraj K. and Mrs. Anitha K. Her life took a difficult turn when her father deserted the family, leaving her mother to take full responsibility for raising two daughters and caring for elderly parents. Despite these challenges, her mother worked tirelessly as a daily wage labourer, ensuring that her children continued their education.

studies. She was sincere, hardworking, and determined to build a better future. Recognizing her potential, she was supported through the CSP programme during her early education, which helped her continue her schooling without interruption.

After successfully completing her Pre-University studies, Maria pursued her dream of entering the healthcare field by enrolling in a B.Sc. Nursing course (2021–2024). However, as she progressed in her studies, the financial burden of college fees became overwhelming for the family. There was a real fear that she might have to discontinue her education at the final stage.

At this crucial moment, Maria received Higher Education support in the form of a scholarship under the programme for economically poor students. This timely support became a turning point in her life. It lifted the financial burden from her family and gave her the strength to continue her studies with renewed hope and confidence.

With determination and perseverance, Maria successfully completed her B.Sc. Nursing degree. Today, she is working at Sree Siddaganga Institute of Nursing Science, Tumkur, the very institution where she received her training. As a nurse, she now serves patients with care, compassion, and responsibility fulfilling her dream of helping others.

The transformation in Maria’s life is remarkable. From a situation of uncertainty and struggle, she has grown into a confident healthcare professional. Her success has brought stability and pride to her family, especially to her mother, whose sacrifices made this journey possible.
