From Financial Struggle to Caring Leader: Emmanuel’s Journey in Nursing

Emmanuel Fernandes, from St. Joseph’s Church, Sagar in Shivamogga District, comes from a humble and hardworking family. He is the son of Mr. Salvador Fernandes, who works as a mason, and Mrs. Anitha, a homemaker who manages the household. With a modest and uncertain income, the family faced continuous financial challenges. Emmanuel also has a younger sister, Seejal, who is currently studying in 9th standard, adding to the family’s responsibilities.

Despite these challenges, Emmanuel was determined to pursue his dream of becoming a healthcare professional. He enrolled in the B.Sc. Nursing course (2021–2025) with the hope of building a better future for himself and supporting his family. However, as he progressed in his studies, especially during the final year, the financial burden of college fees became very difficult for his family to manage.

At this critical stage, Emmanuel sought support through the Financial Support Programme for Economically Poor Students. Recognizing his need and dedication, he was provided with a scholarship (1st installment in 2024). This timely support became a turning point in his life. It eased the financial burden on his family and enabled him to complete his studies without interruption.

With renewed confidence and determination, Emmanuel successfully completed his B.Sc. Nursing degree. Today, he is working as a Tutor for B.Sc. Nursing students at Manaswini College of Nursing. In this role, he not only practices his profession but also contributes to shaping the next generation of nurses, sharing his knowledge and experience with others.

The transformation in Emmanuel’s life is significant. From a student struggling to pay fees, he has become a professional contributing to the healthcare and education sector. His success has brought pride and stability to his family and has given hope for a better future for his younger sister as well.

Emmanuel and his family express their heartfelt gratitude to Caritas Prague and all the generous donors who supported him through this journey. They acknowledge that this scholarship support made it possible for him to complete his education and achieve his goal. He assures his prayers and sincere thanks to all who stood by him during his time of need.

Emmanuel’s story reflects the true impact of SMSSS empowering students from poor backgrounds, enabling them to complete their education, and helping them become responsible professionals who serve society with dedication and compassion.
