Chaitanya, Shimoga, July 13, 2020: Trainings on introducing organic farming were organized at different places within our working area to create awareness among the farmers to shift from their traditional way of farming using chemical fertilizers and pesticides to organic farming.

Melina Kuruvalli

On 23 June 2020 the training was held at Melina Kuruvalli for 45 farmers. Mr Koushik, the Agricultural Officer from Thirthahalli was the resource person. He spoke on the importance of organic farming, methods of farming, and the benefits of organic farming. Animator of the area Mrs Meena D’Mello and the Coordinator Mr Madhusudan were present.

Jeni

Training was organized for 51 farmers on 25 June 2020 at Jeni, Hosanagar taluk. The resource person, Mr Basavaraj Beeranna, Professor in Agriculture and Horticulture University, Shimoga explained about the cropping pattern, benefits of multi cropping, organic manure and organic pest control method.  He spoke on various organic manures and organic pest control methods.

Hunasodu, Abbalagere

Training was organized for 46 farmers of Hunasodu, Abbalagere Gram Panchayat on 07 July 2020. The resource person, Ms Sunita, Agricultural Officer and Mr Basavaraj Beeranna, Professor in Agriculture and Horticulture University, Shimoga briefed about the importance of organic farming in the present condition where the usage of chemical fertilizers and chemical pest control has caused several health hazards. They pointed out that the better way to improve the fertility of the soil, welfare of environment and wellbeing of humanity is to adopt organic farming. Reduction in production cost and increase in the yield and better profit is guaranteed for those adapting organic agriculture. The government schemes available to the farmers and the possible insurance coverage for crops were explained.

Doddadanavandi, Ayanur

Training was organized on 10 July 2020 at Doddanavandi, Ayanur for 41 farmers of our Self Help Groups. The resource person Mr Basavaraj Beeranna, Professor in Agriculture and Horticulture University, Shimoga stressed upon the importance and benefits of organic farming as well as ill effects of chemical farming on the nature and on the living being. Farmers expressed greater concern about yield with the usage of organic manure and organic pest control. All the queries of the farmers were answered with success stories.

Hosudi

Training was organized for 51 farmers of Hosudi Gram Panchayat on 11 July 2020. The resource person, Mr Basavaraj Beeranna, Professor in Agriculture and Horticulture University, Shimoga briefed about the importance of organic farming when people are more health conscious compared to earlier years and organic food is given more importance. He also explained about health hazards caused by the usage of chemical fertilizers. He motivated the farmers to utilize traditional compost for better quality food. As a result 6 members volunteered themselves for organic crop cultivation and to construct vermicompost pits.

Mandaghatta

Training was organised at Mandaghatta for 45 farmers on 13 July 2020. Resource person, Mr Basavaraj Beeranna, Professor in Agriculture and Horticulture University, Shimoga spoke on the importance and methods of organic farming, the benefits and its relevance in the present circumstances. He said that the usage of chemical fertilizers in agriculture has brought in fatal diseases which were not present in the previous generation. So it is the duty of the farmers to promote the health of the people and healthy society in the near future.
