Shimoga, May 09, 2020: The fight against COVID-19 still continues. The number of confirmed COVID-19 positive cases is on the rise every day. The lockdown is extended with certain relaxation in some places. However poor people's plight still continues. Poor people who depend on their daily earnings to make ends meet are continuing to face difficulties due to lack of work. True to its mission the Diocese of Shimoga through the Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society continues its humanitarian response to the current situation of hunger and helplessness caused by COVID-19.

Till date the Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society has supplied essential food items kits containing rice, dal, cooking oil, sugar, wheat flour, sambar powder, chilli powder, tea powder, etc. to 2,545 most deserving families of all faiths in places like Holalur, Sugur, Ragigudda, Hosudi Farm, Hosudi Village, Basavanagudi, Oddinakoppa, Vidhyanagar, Bapuji Nagar, Ayanur, Harnahalli, New Mandli, Tippunagar, Veerannana Benavalli, Bommanakatte, Shrirampura, Muddinakoppa in Shimoga Taluk, Bhadravathi New Town, Bhadravathi Old Town, Bhadravathi Paper Town, Bommanakatte, Mavinakere, Hadlaghatta, Karehalli, in Bhadravathi Taluk, Nelavagulu, Matthikote, Harogoppa, Muddanahalli, Shikaripura Town in Shikaripura Taluk, Sonale, Jeni, Koduru, Hosanagar, Nagar, Kable, Arasalu in Hosanagar Taluk, Anandapura, Kanle, Yedajigalemane in Sagar Taluk in Shimoga District, Thimmappayyanahalli and Molakalmuru in Challakere Taluk, Hiriyur in Hiriyur Taluk in Chitradurga District, Nyamathi, Palavanahalli, Mussenal, Ganjenahalli in Honnali Taluk,  Harihar in Harihar Taluk in Davanagere District.

The Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society through the Self Help Groups also prepared and distributed 2367 face masks to people in and around Shimoga.

The Diocese of Shimoga supplied essential food items to 283 most needy families of all faiths. In a special humanitarian act the Diocese of Shimoga supplied tarpaulins to 41 families living in the tents near Shrirampura coming under Muddinakoppa Gram Panchayat, Shimoga. Due to the lockdown these people living in the tents do not have any earnings these days. The Diocese of Shimoga and the Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society also supplied essential food items to 38 migrants labourers presently stationed in Shimoga.

The Gram Panchayat Presidents and Panchayat Development Officers of Holalur Gram Panchayat and Hosudi Gram Panchayats of Shimoga Taluk and Nelavagilu Gram Panchayat and Matthikote Gram Panchayat of Shikaripura Taluk, Palavanahalli of Honnali Taluk in Davanagere District had officially requested us to support the needy families with essential food items.
