Chaitanya, Shimoga, June 21, 2019: The Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society organized a one day seminar on Child Issues, Child Rights and POCSO Act for the second day on 21 June 2019. 80 women from various Streebandhu Federations participated in the programme. Mrs G. M. Rekha, the president of CWC, Shimoga District and also Project Manager of Surabhi Ujjwala Project inaugurated the seminar and spoke on various issues pertaining to children and the Acts pertaining to the protection of children from abuse and violence. Sr Lilly Pushpa, UFS spoke on the same aspects which she had spoken yesterday.

Chaitanya, Shimoga, June 20, 2019: One day seminar was organized for the Streebandhu Federation leaders of Shimoga, Sharavathinagar and Ragigudda on 20 June 2019 at Chaitanya, SMSSS, Shimoga. The seminar was inaugurated by Rev. Fr Clifford Roshan Pinto, Director SMSSS at 10.00 am. Sr Lilly Pushpa, UFS was the resource person for the day. She elaborately highlighted various issues or problems present day children face at home, in the school, in the society, etc. and how to address such issues. Both father and mother play an important role in the upbringing of every child. Through several examples she explained how children are being targeted and how children face problems. There are occasions where children are not in a position to share their problems, issues with others. Addressing some of the problems/issues of children is a challenging issue in the present context. Yet as parents, citizens it is our responsibility not to remain silent.

The main focus of the seminar was a clear explanation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. She highlighted that in order to effectively address the heinous crimes of sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children through less ambiguous and more stringent legal provisions, the Ministry of Women and Child Development championed the introduction of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. In detail she explained the provisions related to the conduct of trial of reported offences, various punishments for offences covered in the Act, duties of the police as specified in the POCSO Act, etc.

Mrs. Precilla Martis, the President of Streebandhu Souharda Sahakari along with Mrs Jyothi Vas and Mrs Mamatha Rani the animators motivated the women to participate in the seminar. 91 women from different Streebandhu Federations benefitted from the seminar.
