Chaitanya, Shimoga, October 09, 2023: A meeting of the Directors of all the Social Work Centres within the diocese was held in Chaitanya, Shimoga on 09 October 2023. The Directors of Health Apostolate too participated in the meeting. The meeting began at 10.00AM with prayer.
Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao SJ, the Bishop of Shimoga was the resource person. Based on the Scripture and Papal Encyclicals Bishop explained the difference between Mission and a mere social work.
Bishop stressed that our mission should be an expression of an experience of God who is Love.
The major concern is that the social work is taking a back seat today because of lack of conviction and commitment. The other issue is, institutions have taken priority over social work.
The Directors shared their concerns and discussed about how to collaborate with others.
The meeting ended with lunch at 1.00 PM. It was decided that we come together at least once in six months. The next meeting is scheduled for 20 February 2024.
