Shikaripura, June 19, 2019: An awareness programme was organized for 34 members of 21 Self Help Groups at Shikaripura, Shimoga district on 19 June 2019 on waste management and waste separation. Br Vinuth spoke on how to segregate waste into categories and how some waste could be converted into manure and some other waste could be recycled.

He also enlightened the minds of the participants on how excessive use of plastic can cause cancer and other diseases and called upon the participants to take precautionary measures and reduce/stop using plastic.

During the awareness programme it was suggested to submit applications to concerned authorities to clean up the lake and to install dust bins in every street. The members decided to organize a rally in the area to create awareness among people about the negative impact of plastic usage and shared responsibilities for the same. The members have decided to convert their area into a plastic free zone. Mrs Chaya, the animator for the area organized the awareness programme.
