A voluntary blood donation camp was organized by Streebandhu SHG federation of Shimoga as a part of Silver Jubilee celebrations of Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society (SMSSS) on Tuesday, 04 November 2014. A team from Rotary Club Shimoga blood bank conducted the camp, wherein 32 donors came forward to donate blood.

 

 

 

 

 

Shimoga MLA Sri Prasanna Kumar called upon more women to come forward to donate blood as it is equal to donate life. He applauded the service of SMSSS and appreciated very much the positive change SMSSS could bring in the lives of the most marginalized through its sustainable interventions.
SMSSS is committed to its mission of empowering the poor and marginalized through the process of capacity building and rights based actions. The Silver Jubilee year and various celebrations in view of it is an occasion for SMSSS to evaluate its interventions so far and design a way forward for the coming years, he said. He shared the achievements of SMSSS in the past 25 years.

 

 

 

 

 

Dr Sanjay K S, Chief Medical Officer, Rotary Blood Bank Shimoga, said that if more and more people, especially, the younger generation pledge and come forward to give blood voluntarily, there will be no dearth of blood worldwide. He added that requirements of safe blood were increasing and regular voluntary blood donations were vital for blood transfusion services. She applauded the efforts of the organizers in encouraging the public in conducting the camp.

Spreading awareness on the subject, Smt Lakshmi Gopinath, the President of Rotary Club said in her talk that a healthy adult could give blood 3-4 times a year without any problem.
