Shimoga, January 17, 2014: The President of Construction Laborers N Ramesh said that the Government Schemes won’t reach the deserving poor due to lack of awareness.  The associations and NGOs should help to create awareness among the people, he said. He was speaking after inaugurating the massive membership drive of construction laborers jointly organized by Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society and Sthree Bandhu Multipurpose Shouharda Cooperative in Chaitanya, Alkola circle, Shimoga.

 

 


Government has hundreds of schemes for the empowerment of the poor.  The Poor should make the best out of them. SMSSS has been one of the lead NGOs in Karnataka which has been striving hard for the empowerment of the poor irrespective of caste and creed ever since it came into existence, he said.

While appreciating SMSSS and Sthree Bandhu for initiating to identify and enroll the construction laborers, he explained about the various benefits that can be availed through enrollment. They will be entitled to get up to Rs 2, 00,000 when the member dies in accident, Rs 54,000 on natural death. They are eligible to get health insurance in all the major hospitals, school going children will avail education scholarship, for house construction, they can avail loan up to Rs 2, 00,000 for 5% interest out of which Rs.50,000 will be subsidy,  they will get the help to buy the instruments, Rs 50,000 will be given for the wedding of 2 children and many other benefits. He promised his full cooperation in the enrollment process and availing the benefits.

 

 

 


Fr. Veeresh V. Moras, the Executive Director of SMSSS called upon the Sthree Bandhu federation leaders to take up the leadership in enrolling as many deserving beneficiaries as possible from among the families of the members of the SHGs.  It is very heartening to see the federation leaders taking keen interest in the empowerment of the members of their respective federations. SMSSS is committed to empower the poor and reaching out to the most deserving of the Society through initiating various schemes, he said.

 

 

 

 


Mrs. Precilla Martis, the President of Sthree Bandhu insisted that the women take active part in all the programs of Sthree Bandhu. While Mr. Jagadish compeered the program, the president of Shimoga Sthree Bandhu federation thanked all the dignitaries and the participants. Mr. Devdan and Mr. Yesudas, and all the staff of SMSSS were present.
